Ancient devil by AngiWallace Ancient devil by AngiWallace
This is a male Common leaf tailed gecko from Madagascar ( Uroplatus fimbriatus) which I had the pleasure of owning for a couple of years. He (and his mate) have since gone to a new home, with an owner who keeps and breeds many of the uroplatus species, as in recent years I have had to drastically reduce the amount of pets I keep due to an ongoing illness which leaves me with very little energy.
Many years ago, on Madagascar, these geckos were thought to be little devils due to the scream they emitted when disturbed and the strange face they pull -

That superstition still exists in many of the tribes and isolated villages. Particularly the people who live in and amongst the Tsingy are afraid of them. It is thought that, if they jump on you, they merge with your skin and posess your spirit, possibly due to their amazing camoflage in the rocks. The people I worked with in Madagascar were never particularly afraid of them per se, but they still avoided them as much as they could.

Good shot, by the way. Love the fimb's.

I'm so sorry to read that you have an ongoing illness. I hope there's a cure. I't horrible being sick, I know. I would hate having to give up my animal family because of an illness. I hope that never happens.

Best Wishes to you and a speedy recovery.
